We’re Kalyn and Joseph, full-time RVers for 7 years (and counting!)
We love boondocking in remote locations, adventuring through the national parks, and uncovering hidden gems, all while sharing the reality of full-time RV Life and making you laugh along the way.

The Story Behind Open Roading
2019: We started our full-time journey in a used 2005 Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel that we renovated ourselves. It included a small solar and battery package so we could start boondocking right away! We checked off some major national parks, including the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier.
2020: Everything came to a halt during the pandemic. We traveled a lot slower this year and explored more remote locations.
2021-2022: Kalyn’s lifestyle blog (that had originally funded our travels) began to lose money. We stopped traveling during the winter months and Joseph took on additional jobs to help boost our bank accounts. Kalyn continued to try different strategies to bring back the business.
2023: With business income still not improving, Joseph worked at Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground for the summer. We were broke and had to make a decision. Do we give up RV life and get regular 9-5 jobs? Or do we try to find different work camping opportunities so we could stay on the road?
We chose the latter and set a goal to save enough money to at least make it to Alaska, just in case our work camping jobs didn’t pan out long-term. Joseph worked the Sugar Beet Harvest that fall and we both accepted Gate Guarding jobs over the winter where our rescue pup, Trinity, found us. We also started YouTube (for the 3rd time!) and thousands of people tuned in to watch our journey unfold.
2024: We made it to Alaska and experienced the summer of a lifetime! As an additional surprise, we consistently started making money from our YouTube channel to help us keep traveling.
2025: We leaned into our new roles as full-time content creators with a focus on showing real RV life (the whole picture, not just pretty destinations.) With our RV reaching 20 years old and starting to fall apart we also upgraded to a new 2025 Brinkley Z3515.
2026: We recently finished a 100 day boondocking challenge and added Ollie the bunny to our family! We have a lot of fun plans this year that include heading to the northeast this summer. We’ll also be taking our first backpacking trip, and show you a few alternative ways to travel (not just in our fifth wheel!)
